Hello. I have a Gigabyte GA-586HX 1.55 motherboard and today connected a PS2 socket to the pin header on the board. the connecter is wired as per the boards manual but a mouse is not detected. I have since found the VVC pin is shorted to ground. I wondered if anyone would have an idea where to look to solve this. I have had a good look at the board physically and cannot see any issues with traces or anything so I assume the issue is with a component but i dont know enough to know where to start looking. any pointers would be appreciated

VCC should be 5v and generally comes from the PSU main 5v+ lines, if it is shorted to ground then think the board would have other issues than just a mouse not working AFAIK.

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Thanks for the reply. Pin 1 and 2 on the board are definitely shorted. and according to all the info I have seen on this board those pins are Vcc and ground. I will give it a test tonight and see if its showing 5v to be sure. thanks
