I bought Gainward Nvidia GeForce FX5500 AGP8X 256Mb to test how the DVI works on older hardware.

Asus P2B-VM motherboard with PII350, Windows ME and ForceWare 81.98. Display settings 32-bit & 60Hz. PC connected to TV with new high quality DVI > HDMI cable.

On DVI 1280x1024 resolution works fine but anything above that and I get black screen and unknown signal message on the TV. VGA works fine in FHD.

Is this by design and is a limitation of the hardware, Windows ME or if DVI is broken?
