Hi everyone!
Not so long ago, I got my hands on the 2x Pentium III-M motherboard from Intel, model SDS2, in the eATX form factor. Luckily, the motherboard works just fine, but there is a problem with integrated graphics.
Since bootup, I get some artifacts and random letters on the screen. Logic tells me that the issue is behind the VRAM chip. According to the SDS2 user manual uploaded on TheRetroWeb, the ATI Rage XL GPU integrated chip uses 4 MB of VRAM in SDRAM technology at 125 MHz clock, and it uses a PCI bus. I want to replace the RAM chips, but there are a few questions, because I've never had experience in that matter:
- Is there any diagnostic tool strict for the legacy ATi chips based on DOS just to prove that the VRAM is faulty?
- Do I have to replace the chips with the same model as before?
[*]Can I use chips from any clock-rated DIMM at 133 MHz? I see that the PCI version of Rage XL uses 125 MHz.
Thanks!
