dear vogons,
I have a digital tv tuner for xbox one from Hauppauge and, at first i used it on my xbox one to watch digital tv OTA. But I no longer have my xbox one, so i use the dongle on my pc to capture home movies. I hate using the included software WinTV10. Actually I got it with WinTV8 or 7 but thats no longer working on windows 11. I bought the new license for 12.95 to even use it but can I get it working with say VLC or Debian because I am playing original hardware and want to stream it directly to twitch?

Off original hardware, IMO the best option is getting a splitter to keep outputting to a CRT TV, and then have the other output go to a RetroTink 2X Pro, or the Chinese Clone RetroPlayer Scaler. That will convert to a standard HDMI signal that any cheap HDMI to USB capture device can handle. It will then appear as a camera to whatever streaming software you want to use, you'd still have the low latency of a CRT. You DO NOT want to just go into a tuner without a splitter and play off your TV. Those old games assuming no display latency, so many games will be much harder to play.

Alternatively, switching to FPGA with a full MiSTer stack will let you output an analog signal to a CRT TV or VGA monitor (enable the line doubler for console cores). And do the proper scaling to also output HDMI for you to stream from.
