Hello,

I’m not really sure where to put this but I would like to ask something relating to some trouble that I’m having. One of my DVD drives in one of my systems won’t read discs, and all I ever get out of it is what’s seen in the video below. I’m not sure if anyone here can do optical drive repairs where I live in the US, but I would like some advice on what is going on here. Thanks!

Repair might be more expensive than replacement.
Go through your standard checks cables/ribbons, power, drivers, different media.
Two of my ide dvd drives act similar to that works with cds but not dvds until i have an operating system installed then it can read dvds again

Have you tried cleaning the lens? My DVD drive did that, and it turned out to be a dirty laser lens. I believe you have to dismantle the drive to get to it which can be a bit of a pain.

Or use a cleaning cd/dvd.
