Hey, I've been trying to get Jones in the Fast Lane (CD version) working with dosbox, but I can't get the CD sound to work. I've tried everything I found in other threads, but to no avail.

I've tried the GoSierra patch, but it doesn't work on any of the driver files, says they're invalid.

I also tried downloading the latest AUDBLAST.DRV from the sierra website, but that didn't change anything. Then I used the GoSierra patch on that AUDBLAST.DRV and while it modified the file, the sound was still not loading.

In one of the other Jones thread I saw someone post an AUDBLAST.DRV that seemed to work, but that link was dead. So if someone could link me a working AUDBLAST.DRV I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you for the help 😀

I've got the actual CD, so that's not a problem. Plus, Jones uses audio files rather than audio tracks, so copying them over directly and mounting that directory in DosBox seems to work just fine.

The problem seems to be an incompatibility between AUDBLAST.DRV that comes with Jones CD and the DosBox soundblaster wrapper or whatever the program uses to emulate sound hardware.

Anyone have an AUDBLAST.DRV that works with Jones CD?

Try to swap audblast.drv with a new/different version. Also, try changing the emulated SB type inside DOSBox (default = SB16).

If this is the "Unable to initialize your audio hardware" error, you can mimic what Sierra used to suggest as a work around. Back when the old 386s and 486s were around, they had Turbo switches. Sierra recommended that you turn off the Turbo to start the game and flip it back on after the game had started.

You can do this with DOSBox by starting with a very low cycles value and then after the game starts, increase the cycles with Ctl+F12.

I tried the low cycles thing, and it didn't work. I also tried a multitude of settings including all of the various soundblaster types (sb, sb2, etc). I tried a few different versions of AUDBLAST, but none of them worked (patched or unpatched).

Does anyone have an AUDBLAST.DRV that they could link or send me? In the other long Jones thread someone posted an AUDBLAST that supposedly worked with Jones CD, but the site it was hosted on was down. /cry

Thanks for all the help so far, it's appreciated. 😀

Just tried that AUDBLAST.DRV and I still get the same problem. =/ That file looks like the same one that's available on the Sierra site, and I've tried it before with no luck. The GoSierra patch also doesn't fix the problem, I've tried it on every version of AUDBLAST I can find and I still get the 'Unable to initialize audio hardware' error message.
