The unit is so quiet, even with my ear on it I can hardly hear anything. And I tested copying files! really amazing

I’m surprised because even 4x drives I can hear, but this one copies and read very fast and with less noise than some 4x units I have at home.

The problem is the front is black and kind of ugly, no volume or anything. But I found other Philips drives that look nicer, like the Philips DVDRW824 or RWDV3210. I’d like to know if anyone tried other models and can share opinion, because I don’t know if all the modern Philips are this quiet or only this one

thanks!

Most DVD drives I’ve used are generally far more silent compared to any late 40x+ CD-ROM drives, which are incredibly annoying at full speed and when I used those I slowed them down if possible. I prefer slower drives and use period correct stuff a lot, so my DOS systems and early win9x systems usually get slower drives by default and for 2000s systems or so, DVD drives are a good option.

So far nothing still beats two of my 2x drives I have in couple of my 486s: a Creative branded Sony CDU-33 and MediaVision branded Sanyo SCSI drive. Both are almost inaudible, you only might hear a weak hiss occasionally. They pair perfectly with such systems and even read CD-Rs just fine.

Well this Philips Drom6216/34 for sure beats all my 2x drive, and even my mitsumi mitsumi lu005s! mitsumi lu005s is very quiet of course because is 1x, but is noisy when seek CD, the philips is quiet like mitsumi and when seek too

The only problem is ugly and black. I can paint but i ask other people if tried another philips units
