Hi everyone!
Can someone provide information about the DIP switch settings for above-mentioned computer? Photos from manual would be awesome!
Thanks in advance!

Now I need to find the Matsushita diagnostics software mentioned on page 3-4. 🙂

The one in the ROM? 😀

Oh! It is in the ROM?
In the „Service Anleitung“ Page 3-4 is written it can be started by diag /s .
I have to check if diag.com is available in the Nixdorf DOS 3.2 on my machine…
Or is there another way to start the diagnosis except having HDD failure?

Hi!

I found diag.com in Nixdorf DOS 2.11 floppy disk image for 8810 M15 on Archive.org.
It starts the diagnostics from the ROM. 👍Nevertheless, only some tests are running. Some freeze or reboot the 8810 M35. Maybe the diag.com is specific for the different Nixdorf 8810 models.
In the Nixdorf DOS 3.2 that came with my M35 no diag.com is included. The M35 „Service Anleitung“ Page 3-4 shows Nixdorf/Matsushita DOS 2.11 start screen.
So it seems 2.11 is the version that came with the machine originally.
I would be happy if someone could provide info where to get the original Nixdorf DOS 2.11 disk images for the 8810 M35.

Thanks!

Thanks!

You're welcome. ^^

I do have a backup of M35 installation, but it was virus infected.
I'm using MS-DOS 6.22 on it now, 8087 and V20 are installed (BIOS patch).

The original MFM HDD can be seen here:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=irtDxYman88

It had MS-DOS 3.20 installed, Nixdorf OEM.

Edit: Big thanks to chriz again for the manual!
I now finally know the pinout for the proprietary serial connector.

I would have wanted to get a copy of this virus infected disk if it was still 2017, but you said "was" infected. so I believe it's long been disinfected 😀

Err, to be honest, I've made an image. The files might still be still, um, as-is.
I'll have a look, will write back soon. ^^

How did you make the image or backup of the machine? My M35 has ST225 installed and first I tried laplink to copy/backup the files to another computer but serial port did not connect and parallel port is unidirectional and centronics plug so laplink cable does not fit and unidirectional port anyways will not work with laplink…
Eventually I was juggling 360k floppies 🙃.
Still I would be interested to know a more efficient way to transfer data from/to the M35.
Thx!

Hi! Thanks for asking!
Unfortunately, I've forgot. It's been years ago, somewhen in the 2010s.

In terms of filetransfer, it's the following.:
- I've removed the 3,5" 720KB "B:" drive and installed a Gotek with Flash Floppy.
I use 2M-XBIOS driver, too. 720KB DD format is still possible with on-board floppy controller (250KB/s).
- I'm using null-modem cable with FileMaven (multi-i/o card installed)
- I've retired the MFM/RLL drive and controller and use an XT-IDE card

Please note that I really love the original MFM drive, but I had to decide between storage and authenticity. 😞
So I've chosen the CF card solution.

Thing is, this PC isn't meant to be used as a gaming PC but more of an development computer.
Once it's complete, it'll be the main computer of my little ham shack/electronic lab.

It can be used to check solid-state database while working on soldering station, run some DOS compilers,
run ham software (Hellschreiber/PK-Fax/Hamcomm etc), do run AutoCAD, old PCB software and so on.

With two monitors, one for CGA and one for Hercules/MDA. Yay!

In my YT channel there are already some videos showing it. 🙂

Though I won't do electronic experiments with it that could damage it.
I won't use the on-board ports for any experiments, for example.

Hats off!
Seems like you’re still using this old machine in a somewhat productive way 👍!
For me, it’s mainly a gaming machine, but it’s quite interesting and a bit challenging 😉 since this thing is about 7 years older than the first PC I ever owned…
Yes, the MFMs are awesome 🥰. I get thrilled every time I start the system: “Will it crash or not? 😳🙂
So far, there’s been no need to disassemble the M35 — it’s running without issues (and I’m also not brave enough to take it apart 🤣).
Thanks for all the info!
If you come across Nixdorf Computer DOS 2.11, please share it…
