Hi everyone,

I seem to be getting terrible performance out of my 8MB Voodoo2 SLI setup. It is on a:

K6-2 400
1x128mb pc100
Diamond Viper V550 8MB Primary
Win98SE
DX9

3DMark99 averages half the performance of my V550 (TNT), coming in at 14fps compared to 27fps on the TNT in the first test (All 800x600). I noticed the frame rate doubled through the tunnel of the race in the first test, before tanking again outside. Performance in Carmageddon 2 seems to be roughly equal to my TNT.

Drivers make no difference. Do Voodoo2's respond poorly to changes/problems in the CPU clock? Because I am having clock issues on this board with the CPU with 105MHz on the FSB despite setting it to 100. The TNT AGP has no issues however.

So many combinations to make, so few cases to put them in.

What's your motherboard? How do you know the FSB is at 105MHz?

GA-5AX

CPU-Z reports it as such & I post 420MHz. RAM also running at 105.

just a wild guess but maybe there is a PCI divider of 1/4 that automatically kicks in at FSB > 100?

Possibly, not sure if PCI is set independently from CPU/AGP clocks on this board.

I do have an AT Clock divider setting in the BIOS, but I'm 80% sure that's for setting the ISA clock divider. Either way it is set to Auto 2/4.

Voodoo2 texture thrashing is much worse in SLI (and two cards won't grant double the texture memory - this is still effectively less than the TNT). Try it with a single card

FUCK "AI". It is a tool of fascism. We do not need it. We do not use it.

Both cards do the same thing when single. 10-14fps on Test 1 except in the tunnel (24fps).

No change in performance with different resolutions at all.

You are very CPU bottlenecked with your K6 400. For most 3D games, this CPU will be barely any faster than a Pentium II 233-266. Certainly not enough CPU grunt to push Voodoo SLI, which is why you're seeing the TNT perform similarly, plus the fact that these are only 8MB V2s, so when you're running out of memory, performance tanks.
