plz help new to dos or dos box getting error detection sys. failed to find hardware

ok im trying to run a game called max and found dos box in a search for how to make old games run in xp.
so i have xp sp2 bla bla i know noting about dos and such but i got dosbox going and got the the game to almost run, the screen goes black for a while and gives an error" DETECTION SYSTEM FAILED TO FIND HARDWARE"
my question is what do i need to do next to fix this . i did a lot of net searching and figured this would be eazyer

any help would be great

The game is likely complaining because you did not use the game's sound configuration program to the proper settings.

It would help to know what the name of the game is.

M.A.X. is slow, that's true. Read the guides forum for tips and tricks for speedup, but on the whole, you will have to live with some sluggishness.
