Hi, I've recently re-installed Realms of the Haunting, an old win95 game. I currently have two versions running, one through DOSbox, in which the keyboard controls work just fine but the sound, music and voices are jittery, and a second version using VDM sound (a similar doz program I found specifically for sound problems). In this version the sound is great, but the keyboard controls don't work - well they do, but they have the character running around in circles.
I wouldn't mind having one or the other, but in this game the sound is kind of important to build atmosphere and the keyboard controls are kind of important because when you hit a bad guy, you need to be able to move and shoot/slash at the same time, which is difficult if the mouse pointer has to be at the bottom of the screen before the guy will move.
I tried doing the ctrl +f11 thing with the VMD box to reduce cycles and stop him going in circles, but it seemed to have no effect other than making the music a bit clonky. (I prefer the VMD version over the dosbox version because I can alt/tab out of the box without it closing down, as it seems to in dosbox!)
Any help would be gratefully appreciated. I loved this game when it first came out and would love to play it again, properly, as it was meant to be played. Thanks =)
EDIT: I've just been exploring vogons and see there's a VDMsound forum too. I hope this thread is in the right place. I also see that my comp specs might be useful, so here they are:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
512 MB RAM
RealTrek AC'97 audio sound card (am i looking at the right thing?)
GeForce4 MX4000, NVIDIA compatible, graphics card
28 GB free space
Not sure if you need anything else, if so just ask =)
