Hello,

I just tried using DOSBox yesterday since it seems to be the only way I can play my favorite game of all time, TIE Fighter, under Windows XP.

I'm using DOSBox 0.68 and D-Fend 2.0.62.42

I've gone through and learned a lot of about DOSBox in a short time, and was able to mount everything properly and actually get it to execute. However, when I run TIE.EXE which is supposed to run the game, it instead runs the install program. Since the game is already installed, I can't choose any of the options and I simply exit. I've tried several different settings within D-Fend (changing the amount and type of memory used, changing the processor type, changing the sound options, etc) but nothing seems to make any difference. It just simply loads the install program when I want to run the actual game.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be happening? Am I going about things the wrong way? I install TIE fighter through Windows first, which works fine (the directory and all the proper files show up on my PC) and then I set everything up through D-Fend. But still...no go.

If anyone could give me any ideas, it would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

My system specs:

MoBo: Asus A8N-SLI
Proc: Athlon 64 3200+
RAM: 1024GB Corsair
Video: MSI GeForce 6600GT 128MB
Sound: SB Audigy 2 ZS
OS: XP Pro w/ SP2
Game: TIE Fighter Collectors CD-Rom (DOS I believe)
Descrition of problem: see above
Reproductability: Always happens
Sound Mode used: SB16?
Video Mode: ddraw
Emulator ver: 0.68
Steps taken: see above

If you install through windows and then run through DOSBox, games may search for their files in the wrong directory. Either install through DOSBox, or make sure that the game's path inside DOSBox is the same as outside.

Maybe he started his own fork of the code. 😀

Besides, we'll only be up to 0.67rc2 in 2010 😉

Well I did as you mentioned and mounted the CD first and installed off it from within DOSBox (0.63 this time 😉)

Now it runs TIE.EXE, but immediately closes the window before it even runs. I see the old Loading TIE Fighter, DOS/4GW Protected mode run time blah blah blah stuff you used to see from old DOS games, and then it just closes out completely.

I've tried all the different CPU cores, makes no difference between the 4 different options. I've fiddled around with the memory settings, again, to no avail.

Nothing seems to make a difference...any other suggestions?
