OK, here's my sitch:

Dell Dimension 2400
2.20 GHz processor
128 MB of RAM
Built-in non-accelerated onboard video card
Windows XP
Running DOSBox v.65 thru D-Fend v2(beta)

GAMES:
- Wing Commander 3
- Privateer (CD)

Music in both games always stutters. Messing with the sound config in DOSBox has yielded only faster or slower stuttering. Messing with "environment" (memory, etc.) in Privateer allowed me to either hear music or sound smoothly, not both. I opt for sound, as it helps to know when I'm being hit. 😵

I'm using the WC3 install program to test my tweaking. I can get the video stuff (dizzy Tiger's Claw) to run GREAT. Sound - not so much. I've tried the MIDI and GUS options, but nothing plays. My default SB setup is:
- SB16(or Pro, or non-specific)
- Address = 220
- IRQ = 7
- DMA = 1

Incidentally, sound for Lucasarts' X-Wing and TIE Fighter CD versions work fine.

Any help/direction would be AWESOME - please keep in mind that my DOSBox usage is a little rusty as I haven't run games IN DOS since I was, like, twelve.[/code]

instead of fiddling with the sound settings, in dosbox.conf (or D-Fend, but I don't know anything about that, save that it exists 😀) set core=dynamic and cycles=auto.
See if that gives better results!
