I have been succesful in getting the intro animation and sound running in DosBox 0.65 for Jutland a 1193 vintage naval simulation game. However, I cannot get the game menu screen to activate (the manual says to press the spacebar or mouse button); but this has no effect. The game requires the following:
386 or 486DX @25MHz (processor is 1.18GHz Altheon)
640K conventional memory (the laptop has 1GB physical memory)
CD-ROM driver, Microsoft CD extensions version 2.21 or better and VESA driver(the game installed OK and it accesses the CD Drive ok)
4MB of extended memory with at least 2.6 MB of dedicated extended or expanded memory (configuring this may be problematic; I don't have a clue)
25 MB of hard drive space (no problem here)

If anyone has any suggestion, please reply.

Thanks and Happy New Year

Maybe try different cores and different settings for xms/ems
(like xms=false and ems=false).
Both things are accessible through dosbox.conf

Changing the ems and xms did the trick. Game is now working in all respects. Many thanks.
