I have the CD version of Warcraft I, and I can't get redbook audio to work in the game.

Using this player, I've managed to get the audio to play back within DOSBox. It wouldn't work when I mounted the actual CD as a drive, but when I extracted it as a bin/cue and imgmounted it, this worked. But if I launch the game itself, it only plays MIDI.

What am I doing wrong here? Does Warcraft I even support redbook music, or are the tracks only there for show? If the former, what do I need to do to configure DOSBox and/or Warcraft I to play the redbook music?

You could try creating a BIN/CUE image (ISO doesn't support multitrack information) and see if it makes any difference.

I only have the demo of War1. It never turned me on anyway. I remember playing it right after I played War2 and War1 felt sooooo slow. (This was back in '95/96)

That's exactly what I did. Like I said, the DOS CD player wouldn't even work until I tried that (mounting the CD drive itself didn't work).

War1 felt sooooo slow.

The speed's adjustable, and the fastest setting is fast enough for me when exploring and building. Though I find myself throttling it all the way down whenever combat occurs, due to the cumbersome interface (maximum of four units selected at once and no group keys make for nigh impossible combat micromanagement unless your speed is low).
