X-COM UFO Illegal Read and Other Problems

I have been trying to get DOSBox running with X-COM, but have had some troubles.

At first, I tried to run it unpatched, and it would start up, but you could see the title of the dos box window flashing quickly between geoscape, and something else. It never ran, then I patched it to 1.2. The 1.4 patch I have is not working...

Now (at version 1.2) I can get it to start, but when I enter the code for verification, it freezes and the dos box staus screen loops this message:

Illegal read from 62a95b56, CS:IP 150: 1a6956

It's actually counts through the entire last hex digit in those numbers.

So, any ideas? I am using the DOS version of X-Com, and have successfully run many other DOS games using DOS box.

I had those Illegal reads once too, but with Gene Wars, I had mounted the game incorrectly. Maybe you mounted the game's harddrive incorrecly too?

Also try out core=full. And fiddle around with xms, ems and umb.
