I'm still new to using dosbox and this is the first time I'm trying to run off of a cdrom (image file, not the actual cd). I mounted the cd with daemon tools then in dosbox 7.0 put in the following,

mount e e:\ -t cdrom
e:
install

Then I'm brought to the install screen but no matter what install size I choose, it says that I don't have enough space on my HDD (I have tons of space). And also when I chose to change the install directory, it says that their are no drives to install it in.

How can I fix this??

thx

Did you mount your HD as well?
"Mount c c:\games -freesize 999"

The freesize value is needed because by default DosBox only shows 110m freespace for older games. Daggerfall doesn't like this so a higher value is required.

Ok, thx thats one piece of the puzzle now I have another problem

It now says that I have 998 mgs of space on c:, but when i change the install path it says that it's an invalid dos path, and I have no clue what that means, I put for the install path to be " C:\Abandonware\Daggerfall\ " and thats where I want it installed..

thx again!

--------------------------------------

EDIT:

I decided to let the game make it's own install path and now I have yet one more problem until I can play it, When I mount where the game is installed and type in " DAGGER.exe" it says that I need to put in the cd, And i've mounted the cd as well, so what's wrong

thx thx again!

DosBox can only recognize 8.3 characters in filenames and directories within DosBox. So it's best to stick with something short like "games" for the directory where you place your games. "Abandonware" isn't a real term and it's too long anyway. "Daggerfall" is way too long and should just be "Dagger".

As for the CD error you need to type in ""FALL.EXE Z.CFG"

ahhh still another problem. I got the game to work except for the mouse, for some reason my mouse doesn't work, this makes no sense to me since every other game I've played with dosbox has worked with a mouse, whats going on now?

thx again

-------------------
edit: Used cntrl f10 to capture the mouse, but now another problem (why is it so hard to play a game so old....)

After a few clicks the game exits and says,

"Daggerfall has encounterd an internal error at 0
The error reported was: Code: 211 not found in
Exiting... "

ok the download i got came with the patch, but I don't know how to install that now, when i got to e:\patch\dag213\ it says that it will install in the subdirectory which is usually c:\dagger\

Now I have the game installed in c:\dagger\ and when i chose yes, it said that that isn't the directory....

thx

-----------------
edit: ok i'm stupid on that one, it says it needs to be installed IN the directory (DURRR 😅 ) but now when i am installing it, i press "y" a few times to proceed but after pressing "y" for installing maps.bsa, i get the windows error, "dosbox has encountered an error and needs to shut down".

just one problem after another, thx again for the help
