DOSBox 0.70 on WinXP SP2.

When you pop up the inventory bar by moving the mouse to the bottom of the screen, MIDI (MT-32) playback slows down to the speed of a tetraplegic snail (whatever the cycles value). Clicking on any item or clearing the bar away restores the correct music speed.

I'm not sure if it's the original behaviour, hence my report. I secretly hope it might be related to another MIDI slowdown issue encountered in some Legend games (Gateway 2, Hoboken...).

Hmm I'll need to try this out later today - I've had a similar thing happening in a few other games where you'd hear the music slow down.

What's your CPU usage doing at that point?

At 9000 cycles, the CPU runs around 50% (that's with hq2x activated). When the inventory bar appears, the CPU goes through the roof beyond 100% (the task manager can't even refresh itself). I need to reduce the cycles below 3000 to make the game breath again (at which point the CPU hovers around 95%). The other system windows (dialogues, etc) don't make the CPU struggle like this.

I tried with AdLib/SB and it looks like the problem is not limited to MIDI music.
