Hi there. I am new to this group. I am a medical doctor from London, England - currently residing in Toronto, Canada. I am the lead author of an interactive educational diabetes simulation program that has been made available free of charge via the Internet for many years. See: http://www.2aida.org

The software is now somewhat dated. It is DOS based - but people continue to make good use of it. People with diabetes and their carers / relatives use it for self-care education. Nurses, medical students and junior doctors have used it for their own professional education + senior doctors have made use of it for teaching more junior staff.

Since 1996 when the program was launched on the Internet over 250,000 copies of the program have been downloaded from the Web - without charge - and over 5,000 copies are still being downloaded from the www.2aida.org and www.2aida.net Websites each month. So it makes sense to continue supporting usage of the program.

The latest version of the software (AIDA v4.3a) operates as is under Windows XP. Some PCs have a few technical glitches - however I understand that there may be more fundamental issues running the program under Windows Vista. Unfortunately I do not have a Windows Vista PC to test out the program myself.

I have downloaded DosBox and used it to run the AIDA v4.3a program under Windows XP - without any problems. DosBox certainly helps to fix a few non-fatal screen glitches under Windows XP.

My reason for posting to this group is to enquire whether someone with diabetes, or a personal interest in diabetes, might be able to help with testing the AIDA v4.3a simulation program under Windows Vista - using the DosBox emulator?

I should stress that the software is completely freeware + that the AIDA project is a completely non-commercial venture.

If you think you might be able to help - please do get in contact. Any help that anyone may be able to offer would be gratefully received.

Best regards,

Dr. Eldon Lehmann

Tested the program under Windows XP with the latest CVS, the "next" version of DOSBox. The way DOSBox emulates the program isn't Windows dependant, the only problem could be DOSBox-Windows compatibility.

The program works using the default information entered when starting for the first time.

But I made it crash doing these things :

Enter 99 for the weight and enter the simulator (weight jumps to -32) -> Runtime error see screenie.

Start the program, using the default info on screen, Esc to the simulator and then Esc back to the default screen. Doing this three times the third time switching back to the default screen the program crashes. See screenie.

I used loadfix -100 to bring the memory down to about 500kb. I also had set the memory to 4MB. See attached DOSBox conf file.

Erik.

After having the unexpected error continuing to 'escape' the program warns you it lost data and enters the screen with no data entered.
