This is really weird. I installed DOSBox and managed to figure out how to mount directories. So I got the CD drive mounted since the game I want to play won't even install if it doesn't detect windows 95 or 98 on the computer, just says "Fallen Haven requires Windows 95" and closes the install wizard. So I'm trying to install the game using DOSBox, I get the CD drive mounted and get to the point where I can just type "setup.exe" to run the file...and for some reason it puts "win" before the command. It goes as follows:

Z:\>mount p d:\ -t cdrom
MSCDEX installed.
Drive P is mounted as CDRom d:\

Z:\>p:

P:\>setup.exe

P:\>win SETUP.EXE

Illegal command: win.

P:\>

What is going on? Why is it doing this and how do I just run the setup file?

Thanks.

So any idea why it's called DOSBox and not WINBox?

It means that you don't have Windows 95 installed. You could try to do that, but performance will be shitty. Use qemu or virtual box or sth.

I see. I guess I have to figure out how to virtualize windows 95. Thanks.

Maybe try XP's backward compatibility?

my personal experiences with apps/games not "old enough" to take advantage of Dosbox own dos and/or Win3.11 emulation :

best results installing a virtual Win9x guest OS, specifically I have the Win 95a and Win 98FE floppies/cdrom's,
within

1.
VirtualPC

2.
VMWare Workstation/Player

Of course the discussion ought to be tailored to single cases.
Just my 2 cents for general purpose.
