Hi, I've recently downloaded DOSBox because I wanted to be able to play Toonstruck on my XP. I got it running fine (if a little slow) with sound. However, something happened which stopped DOSBox from being able to find my audio device. I thought it was downloading and using DOS32A, but I changed it back, and it still doesn't work. I've also tried re-installing it, and tried changing the Soundblaster settings, but still nothing. I didn't really know what I was changing, so I didn't mess too much.

When I open DOSBox, the status window says:

CONFIG:Loading primary settings from config file C:\DOSBox\dosbox.conf
MIXER:Can't open audio: DirectSoundCreate: No audio device found , running in no sound mode.
MIDI:Opened device:none

Oh yeah, and I tried typing in MIXER /LISTMIDI and it did nothing.

Can anyone help me please? Thanks

EDIT: After posting this, I've found out that my computer hates me, it doesn't recognise the sound device any more that used to work, but now don't, on a laptop with built in speakers. Thanks anyway...

Check if directx is fully working (dxdiag tool) and be sure your sound card
is correctly installed/has functional drivers.

Thanks! Seems to be working now (a restart does wonders!)

Maybe there was just some app still in the background (hanging or whatever)
that occupied the sound module.
