I can't seem to get sound working on hexen or heretic. I've tried editing parts of the dosbox.conf and even searched the web for commands that might help, but so far nothing. I'm running vista, on a laptop but i can't get any sound at all. I do know that there isn't anything wrong with the programs themselves, as there is sound when they are being installed. If anyone has any advice, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, it's mostly working now. I forgot to do setup again after I re-installed the game trying to get it to work before I found DOSBox. However, all of the sound effects come a full second after they should. Any ideas?

Try messing with the blocksize in your dosbox.conf - specifically, lowering it a little. Don't lower it too much though or you'll start getting stutters.

Might be better to use one of the Windows ports anyway. IIRC Doomsday will run Heretic and Hexen although I'm not sure if it works on Vista.

Though windows ports aren't too useful for non-windows people. Besides
that i've never had any problem with sound in heretic/hexen games.

Alright, it seems to be working now. Lowering the blocksize attribute fixed the lag. Thanks for all your help, everyone.

Of course not, but he said he was using Vista. 😀

The comment was of general nature if you re-read it.
