So my problems with running Warcraft II (the original 1995 release, not Battle.net edition) in DOSBox are a little different than the others I've found on the boards. To start, I'm running DOSBox in Ubuntu 8.10.

I got Warcraft installed pretty easily, and it starts up, does its little intro video thing, and goes to the main menu.

When I select "Single Player", I get an ingame error that tells me that I need to have the cd inserted in order to run single player. But my cd is inserted and mounted. It's just not recognizing that.

I mounted the cd like this, which I'm pretty sure is right:

mount d /media/cdrom0 -t cdrom

I'm not sure why the program doesn't recognize that the cd is in. Does anyone have an idea as to what's going on?

Mila

Other stuff that may be useful:
OS: Ubuntu 8.10
Video: OpenGL
Game: Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness
Version: 1.22 (Retail)
DOSBox Version: 0.72

EDIT
Oh and I think I should mention that I got it to work perfectly running Warcraft in DOSBox in Wine, except the sound was kinda funky (helium filtered). And it really wasn't worth the hassle, so if I could get it running in DOSBox in the native Linux environment that would be lovely.

I tried running it myself and didn't have any problems getting it to see the cd. (Version 1.0 Retail)
There are some additional command-line switches for mounting the cd listed in the README. Sometimes they are useful in getting games to recognize the cd.
Also it might not hurt to check the war2.ini and see if the line about the cd points to where the cd is mounted under dosbox.
And it wouldn't hurt to try switching to d: drive in dosbox and seeing if the files are listed by using a DIR command, just to make sure the basics are right.

Alternately you might need to make an image of your cd and use the imgmount command to mount the image instead of the actual cd. (Unfortunately I've never done that before so I can't really comment about how to do that.)

Looks like a mounting error to me. Make sure to use the exact same mountings for installing and playing the game.

WCII creates a "WAR2.INI" file in it's installed directory, which contains a "cdpath" entry, Make sure that entry points to the correct drive letter (in my case, the entry is "e:\", as i'm always mounting a c:\ and d:\ drive, and e:\ is my emulated CD-ROM).
