I'm trying to get Advanced DB Master (ADBM), a DOS-based database, to run under DOSBOX on MS Vista 64, but I'm getting an error. ADBM runs fine under MS Vista 32.

Here are the steps:
Start - Run
cmd
cd "program files"
cd dosbox-0.72
dosbox

(in DOSBOX window, at Z:/> prompt)
mount C C:\adbm
c:
adbm5.exe

The error is shown in the attachment, but is basically:
--------------------
Internal Error
<< error 61 (323) >>
Call stack dump
ROUTINE AT IN MODULE
(etc.)
Press any key to return to DOS
-------------------

I've searched these forums, google, dosbox.com and can't find anything on "error 61".
Any ideas of what to try next?
Thanks!

Yes, same error, plus an additional message that mounting "C:\" is not recommended.

He just recommended doing that to test the program to make sure it was not incorrect mounting that was causing the issue.

Putting your program files in C:\ (like you were doing in your first post) is not recommended, they are supposed to be in a subdirectory.

I'd try copying the program from the 32bit computer to the 64bit computer and seeing if this error occurs.

Also if you just run "cmd" without running it as an administrator (Right-click run as admin) then whatever process you launch will be run under your ordinary user account. So whatever programs you launch from DOSBox will be run under your user account.....and any file/program opened outside of your profile under your user account will only have READ access unless you modify file/folder permissions.

The files are in the \adbm directory.

The files were copied from the 32-bit to the 64-bit machine using Laplink, ADBM doesn't have a fancy install or anything.

Since I'm actually helping a friend with this, and since the 64-bit machine crashed badly yesterday, we're kind of at a standstill for the next couple of days. When it's back up, we'll look at the file permissions, and running as Administrator. Is that just done by clicking on Start, then right clicking on Run to see an option for running as Administrator?

Thanks everyone!

We got Vista working again, and ADBM is working fine on the 32-bit Vista, but under DOSBOX on the 64-bit it still will not work. Error messages are the same as in the first post. Any ideas what I can try next? How can I make sure we are launching it with Administrator rights? There's only 1 user account, and it's Administrator.

Thanks!

Pack the files in the original directory (assure that hidden files and everything
is copied) then move that archive to another 32bit pc and see if it works there.

Did that, and it works fine on the 32-bit machine. For ADBM, there are no hidden files, no special security, and no operating system files specifically needed. It's just an adbm5.exe program.

One question I still have - one of the earlier posts mentioned "right-click, run as admin". At what point do I do the right-click?

Thanks for the continued assistance!

Instead of

Start - Run
cmd

you have to find the CMD program itself using Windows Explorer. It should be somewhere in C:\Windows\System-something.

Once you have found, right-click and choose Run As...

Or you can find dosbox.exe and do a Run As... on that instead.

Same error running as Administrator. We right clicked on dosbox.exe, right click displays the menu w/ "Run as Administrator", so we chose that, then went through the steps to mount the drive and run adbm5.exe. We get the same error as above.

Any additional suggestions are very much appreciated! Thanks
