Hi Forum!

I'm trying to install an old German PC game (Herrscher der Meere).

At start of dosbox I'm currently running:

[autoexec] # Lines in this section will be run at startup. mount C: c:\ -freesize 500MB mount e: e:\ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl […]
Show full quote

[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount C: c:\ -freesize 500MB
mount e: e:\ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl
mount d: g:\ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl

NOTE: C-->c is the normal HD
E-->e is real CD-ROM
G-->d is virtual CD-ROM

So long, so good. I can get to the install exe. But then the install program hangs itself up and I get the message

C:\XTPATH.mss could not been opened

No difference between real and virtual CD-ROM.

System:
Vista 32bit
Q6600
GF 8800GT
4GB RAM

Dosbox: vers. 0.72

I read this thread:

XTPATH.MSS cannot be opened during installation
but I could not figure out what I did wrong!

Any help is appreciated!

leave mount e:... out of it and mount your real CD-rom as d... Also make a games directory in c:\ and mount that as c in your autoexec, so the mountings will be:
mount c c:\games -freesize 500MB
mount d e:\ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl

And then use the real cd in your cd-rom drive. maybe that helps.

OK, deleted the virtual cd-rom

created a directory on real HD, and mount this as c:

mount C: c:\dosbox -freesize 500MB
mount D: e:\ -t cdrom -usecd 0 -ioctl

but same problem, access to install prog ist fine, but then error...XTPATH.MSS is missing.

Any other ideas how to continue?

Can you try the very new version of DOSBox? 0.73 was just released yesterday, just maybe that helps.
When you do that, please delete your old dosbox.conf and let it try with the default conf that gets created.
