OK.

So I have no clue about any of this
I have vista. I've downloaded DosBox. I've tried to make it work. This is where i'm at.

I own the the CD for Death Rally.
I've tried to copy the files into a folder and mount it through. which worked.
Except when i finally got into the game, it said that i needed to insert the CD, and it was.

I just want to play and save. that's it. Help please? Thanks

I'm not sure which read me you mean. I've gone through a dozen sights to find out how to do it differently. I've tried going through mounting a d and such but when i try to open files through the cd rom (through dosbox) i get either unable to change directory or illegal thing. could you send me a link to this read me. Greatly appreciated by the way. I just wanna play my game...

Read my 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox (and don't just read it - follow it too).

If that doesn't help, come back with details on how you mounted your C and D drives, how you did the install, how you configured sound, music etc.

Reading the aptly named README file will be a good idea too.

So, i went through the readme several times, as well as the 60 second umongnst other tutorials. No luck. I'm very illiterate in Dos, i was oly 7 or 8 at the time. Here are the attempts and the screenshots along with them.

When 'MiniMax' says "C: and D: drives" he expects you to know what your drives are 😀

Looks like your D: drive isn't a CD [seems to have a copy of an OS on it (Vista/Windows 7...)]. Look in Windows Explorer and see what devices have a name of CD or DVD (in Windows XP they're shown as a group named "Devices with Removeable Storage" if you look at the computer, under Vista I expect they're named differently but should be similar!).

Once you've worked out what device letter is, substitute the D: for yours and you should be good to go.

I thought that was pretty clear from one of the notes in the guide:

If your real CD-ROM drive is E:, then do a mount D "E:\ -t cdrom".

Should I put it in size 18 font??
