Right - let me explain in some detail.

I have Need for Speed 3 for Windows and would like to get it to run under XP. It works - sort of, save for crashing on transitions between title screen and game or when exiting the game to Windows. Sometimes the only way to get out of this game then is to hit the hard reset button as not even the Task Manager will come up (but the mouse can be seen to be moving)

I've tried the 2000/NT patch and it works fine, but makes absolutely no difference to the aforementioned problem. I've also tried the Win 95 and Win 98 compat modes (my first port of call with any problem) and that seems to alleviate the freezes, but the controls lock up periodically, be it keyboard, gamepad or mouse. A real showstopper in a tight race when your wheels suddenly lock and the brakes or accelerator sticks.

I know that the core affinity has to be set to single core but it's precisely this that's causing the control lockups? Does anyone know the source of this?
