I'm the only person who can't seem to get Magic Carpet running properly due to being too slow, not too fast

PC running Vista, 3.5gb ram, dual core 1.86gb so all fine there

Sound now works aftr messing around but when I run carpet.exe inside Dosbox, it takes nearly 10 seconds to fade from the command prompt to even start the game, and once I eventually get into the game, the screen slows right down whenever I get attacked by enemies. google searches tell me everyone has it running too fast, which I know how to sort

Why is the game running slowly?

I'm running Dosbox 0.73 btw
