Been trying to get my Star Trek 25th CD to work the past few days with some perfect results except for some audio problems.

Game runs smoothly same goes for the music (using Roland LAPC-1 / MT-32 from options) but the sound effects have a hiss and crackle effect of all effects (background, voices, etc)

Using latest Dosbox 0.73 I installed it from both CD and image (dtool) through Dosbox and ran the setup each time to try each sound version. All worked bar the Pro Audios but all the rest still had the hiss/crackle effect.

Settings have changed:
CPU Cycles = 23000 (better running then)
Output = tried all with same results
Fullscreen = both tried

Don't know what else to alter that might fix this problem.

PC Specs also:
MB = Abit P35
CPU = Intel Q6600 - 2.40ghz
RAM = DDR2 4gb
Video = Ati 5850 1024mb gddr3
Sound = Asus Xonar DS
OS = Win7 64bit

Search the forum for posts containing "blocksize" and "prebuffer". Play around with these settings in dosbox.conf and see if it gets better. On my system i'm currently using "blocksize=1024" and "prebuffer=10". Works fine for most games but a few are still giving me audible crackles from time to time (i.e. Magic Carpet).

try using:
rate=44100
blocksize=1024
prebuffer=20
all other rates 44100 too

also tell us what is your cpu usage when cracking happens

And what do you mean by this: "All worked bar the Pro Audios but all the rest still had the hiss/crackle effect." ??

what is your dosbox version and where have you got it from?
do other games have problems too?
post content of "DOSBox Status Window" (in Windows: right click on its title bar -> edit)
enclose your dosbox's config file (also include your MOUNT lines under [autoexec] section)

Those settings worked perfectly thank you and the rest for all the help now can enjoy this game again. Will get more reading on the rates section incase needed for other games now I know where to look thanks to the help given.

For reference
Cpu usage during play is around 7-10%
For the Pro Audio I just tried each audio option in the config to see if any change. All the soundblaster ones worked (but with hiss/crackle) but the Pro Audio made the game not work at all.

Still I'm happy its working perfectly
