Hopefully I'm not making a big mistake posting this here.

I recently acquired Dungeon Keeper Gold and have had no luck in getting it to run. At first I searched and found this thread http://www.vistax64.com/vista-games/131209-du … ible-vista.html. The OP in that thread describes the (almost) exact problem I was having...

I go to install Dungeon Keeper or Dungeon Keeper Gold on my new Vista PC and it gets to the title screen with Horny and then closes into a blackbox at the top left of my screen, minimizes then closes.

In my case this occurs when I try to run the game. Installing didn't appear to have any problems. Also, I am running Windows 7 (32 bit) instead of Vista.

Unfortunately none of the solutions I've found in that thread have so far worked. However, later in the thread it suggested using DOSbox, which I've used before to great effect in running Dungeon Hack (so old, so nostalgic.)

Sadly this does not appear to work, at all. The result (I use DOS Shell, the mounting and line entry commands confuse and confound me) is that I get to see the DOS Box splash screen and then both the Status Window and DOS Box screens close. Given that the problems with this game and DOS box I've seen on the forums get at least as far as playing it, I'm getting a little worried I've missed something very simple. I'm using the newest version of DOS Box and DOS Shell. I can provide some specifications if requested, but I'll need around 5 hours from this posting before I can provide all hardware specs.

Any help/advice/recommendations would be welcome. Thank you very much for your time.

P.S. Love your work! Thank you so much for this wonderful software. 😁

WINDOWS VER

IIRC for Vista+ OS's you'll need to use Windows XP video drivers to get the game to work if you want to use Direct3D.

You'll also need to run the game in Windows 95 compatibility mode.

If you want to run it in software mode then all you'll need to use is 95 compatibility mode.

DOS VER

As far as the DOS version there's supposedly a bug in the AI so the Windows ver is preferred.
