There's LOTS AND LOTS of shovelware covering strangely, only the 1991-1994 era of shareware Windows games. You'll end up finding one of those with lots of them, though more recurring games like Zanti show up and there's not much to find from the 1995-1997 Windows shareware era. Bejeweled and co. buried it all. 🙁

RGB Classic Games features some of the best ones of the bunch but not all of them of course.

Perhaps some of the games you're remembering were OEM supplied, i.e. IBM PS/2's special minesweeper with sounds?

Another curiosity is screensavers. They were more creative and less naggy in the After Dark era than they are in the 'noughties and the 'teens. (2010 is still early to call the decade that, but..)

Ok, I can get the games to run in 3.1. But can you also tell me how I move those games into the games group so they appear as icons in the games window?

Oh man... the memories. I prolly bought each and every single edition of AD for Windows that was ever released 😀

Oh, and also, the little known After Dark for DOS 😀

I finally figured out how to add games to the Games group. I was trying to do it in File Manager when infact I had to do it in Program Manager. 😀
