Hello, everyone.

Mid-last year we released Sango Fighter for DOS as freeware. DOSBox is the program we recommend our fans use in order to enjoy playing it on modern OS', because it does such a fine job running the game properly.

However just the other day I noticed one problem: If the game is configured to play its digital audio through the Ad Lib card (instead of the Sound Blaster), DOSBox locks up. I can confirm that Ad Lib digital audio works fine on my 486 with authentic Ad Lib card installed. So, it appears to be a problem with the emulation.

The game can be downloaded for free from the official website:
www.sangofighter.com

The Ad Lib digital sound function can be tested via running the game's SETUP.EXE and selecting Ad Lib as the "sound effect" choice. Then, exit the setup program and run SANGO.EXE to see the problem.

Weird that it would look up but either way the adlib emulation ussually isn't up for digital output since we don't use small enough time intervals to generate the output.

Are there any plans to add support for digital sound through the Ad Lib card in the near future? We wish to minimize any potential issues our fans may have while playing our game products using DOSBox. Of course, I understand if such support isn't high on the list of future improvements.

Why would anyone want to use Adlib for digitized sound effects if DOSBox already provides SB support? If it's for compatibility sake, that's okay, but using SB is preferable.

Just as I said:

We wish to minimize any potential issues our fans may have while playing our game products using DOSBox.

By default, the game will be set to play its sound effects through the Sound Blaster. However should someone decide to experiment with the options and choose Ad Lib instead, it would be best if they didn't experience a DOSBox lock-up.

There's an experimental patch to forward Adlib PCM playback attempts to the Disney device which is more suitable for this kind of output.

Interesting, but wouldn't that still leave this particular, game-specific issue unresolved?

I don't suppose, given the obscure nature of the problem, that it's likely it will be investigated and possibly fixed anytime in the near future?
