Hello,

I have four year old LG CrossBox with a System Type X86-based PC and Processor x86 Family 15 Model 47 Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~2000 Mhz, running Windows XP Pro - version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600. The Total Physical Memory is 1,536.00 MB, Available Physical Memory is 897.77 MB, Total Virtual Memory is 2.00 GB and the Available Virtual Memory is 1.96 GB

I've downloaded the latest version of DOSBox (0.74) and Daggerfall. The installation went well and the game will play inside of the DOSBox window, but the action is not smooth, especially mouse-driven action. Weapons don't respond quickly enough and I'm smackin' into walls everywhere I go because I can't change direction in time. Also, the game looks out of focus - there are no smooth edges and most objects are "pixily" and hard to spot. (I've seen screen shots of the game as played inside of DOSBox and they look waaay better than what I'm seeing.) I understand that some of the graphic quality would be lost when an emulator is employed, but I actually find the game difficult to look at. Also, constantly getting killed because my sword won't swing isn't much fun.

Are there settings inside of DOSBox that will improve the look and action of this game? This is the first time I've used an emulator. Any advice you can offer would be very much appreciated. Thnx!

Did you download Daggerfall straight from Bethesda's site and follow the included instructions?

You might need to fiddle with core= and/or cycles= DOSBox settings for the animation/responsiveness issues, as well as output= for the graphics issues. Note that the game does run in 320x200 and is software-rendered, so that really is how bad the graphics are; the best you can do is add some bilinear filtering or scaler effects, although the latter will probably be too much for your system.

Also, your system may not be quite powerful enough to run Daggerfall smoothly in DOSBox. Additionally, Daggerfall has issues running at high cycle counts. I believe this is covered in the Bethesda install instructions, but if it isn't then you should find more info already posted on this forum or in the DOSBox compatibility database on dosbox.com.
