Intel Core Duo 6300 @1.86GHz
1 Gig DDR2 PC2 RAM
ATI Radeon EAH 4350 Silent
Onboard sound
WinXP SP3
Dosbox 0.74

I can get most dos games to run in dosbox. The setup file for Wacky Wheels (WW) works fine, including the sound test. When I run the game, the title screen appears for a brief moment and then dosbox crashes.

I am using D-Fend Reloaded 1.03 (but I don't have to be if it is causing the issue to occur). I have tried changing the ingame video and audio settings from the highest to mid graphics and 8 bit sound. I have tried changing the settings in D-Fend: from SB16 to SB2, auto to normal cpu, 10000 rate to 8000 (because of another post I read here), auto processor to slow pentium. I have DBox set for 30 MB RAM plus EMS XMS and high mem.

What's next my brothas?

Have you tried running it without a frontend? Maybye the frontend is using to much memory so the game crashes.
