I can get the original DOS version of Grand Theft Auto under DOSBox 0.74 with sound working for the most part. However, there are some cutscenes that appear between levels. It's at this point that the game will crash. I have done some programming so I could maybe compile the DOSBox with debugging enabled but don't have a lot of time on my hands for a project like that. I'm wondering if this is an issue that has been encountered before (I did search the forum and have found other issues but not related to this one)

My video card is an internal NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M driver version 6.14.11.8798 ( I think this is the latest ) on Win XP SP3
on an Intel Core i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz with 1.45 GHz, 3.05 GB of RAM
(According to the OS anyway 😜 )

I don´t know about that issue with dos version, but you can download GTA for free at http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/. Rockstar did something to those versions that gets them working on new windows computers 😀

Thank you for your reply. I tried this "port" back in the day on an older laptop and my aging desktop without any problems. However, when I install on my laptop, I see the flickering I've seen described elsewhere 🙁 I also want to be able to do the London '69 & '61 as well.

EDIT: I've been able to overcome this issue by changing the DOSBOX settings from svga_s3 to vesa_oldvbe if this helps anyone 😀

There have been posts about that on the forum before. Apparently if you're using an nVidia card, a compatibility fix was introduced in a relatively-new version of the drivers, but in order to get it to work you have to rename the London 1969 executable to "Grand Theft Auto.exe". Searching should bring up the details.

I was able to run the original GTA and GTA:London 69 under DOS BOX 0.74 and the system setting I described above. London 61 is a different story. The only version I have available is a Win version that doesn't run under DOS Box and this has the flicker problem, where the video is scrambled mostly.

I tried renaming the London 1961 executable to "Grand Theft Auto.exe" but this didn't help the problem. I'll look around for the other solution but I do believe I have the latest drivers for my nVidia Quadro FX 880M
