hi guys,

just found the game megarace 2 and downloaded dosbox. Now i wanted to install it. I entered dosbox and started setup.exe. I configured sound card(choosed Creative Labs Soundblaster), it was successfully detected. If i hit the install button i got 2 errors:

1: Error to play music
2: can´t read c:dos4gw.exe

then installation interrupts. Game is supported by dosbox. I am using Win7 64 with dosbox 0.74.

Anyone can help?

Explain what the folder C:\games\megara~1\megara~1 is.

these are two folders. they are named same. megara~1 is the shorted form named by dosbox. the second folder contains the games files. i just pathed through to game files.

Yes, that's all quite obvious. I was looking for more of an explanation as to why you've done it this way instead of using the CD, or an image of the disc, or neglected to mount anything as a cdrom.

Issues 1:
Megarace is a CD game, but you are apparently running it's content from a directory.

Issue 2:
mega1.jpg: Shows install to C:\mega2
meg3.jpg: Shows install to C:\games\mega
...so I have no idea how you set it up.

Issue 3:
mega5.jpg: Shows the game looking for C:dos4gw.exe. It's trying to find the DOS4gw.exe on what it thinks is the CD (i.e. that would normally read D:dos4gw.exe, where D: would be a CD-ROM), but is actually a hard disk (refer issue 1).

Most of the above point to you using a pirated copy of the game, rather than the original CD, which is why you should not expect to get constructive feedback here.

@SKARDAVNELNATE
i was referring to dosfreak´s comment before. not to yours 😀.

@kolano
i downloaded a copy from internet. acutally i own the original megarace 2, i buyed it before years. its somewhere in the house, but i had to search for it. no idea where its gone here. i also couldnt play it for years, because of newer os. but last days i read about dosbox so i would like to play it again.

issue 1:i will try to create an iso and to mount it as a cd.
issue2: i tried both paths, cause i thought i would be a hard disc mount issue maybe. but it wasnt.
