When I try to put dosbox into fullscreen mode, it goes to a fullscreen terminal with a mouse icon and the system appears to completely lock up. I run linux, so what I mean by "goes to a fullscreen terminal" is that it appears to kill my X display and drop me to my ctrl+f1 terminal. I am speculating on the X display being killed. When this happens the system does not respond to any input and I have to hardpower.

This happens on my laptop, which has a widescreen display, and does not happen on my desktop, which does not have a widescreen display.

Any suggestions?
