Having just picked up an AT PSU I was able to try to boot a Asus P55TP4N mainboard bundle I bought on ebay last year. When it posts it states the battery is dead.

The battery is a little black box stuck to the board (its not leaking at the moment) unlike my old 486 mainboard there is no connector for a external battery.

Also unlike my 486 it wont hold its bios settings through a soft reboot so I cant load any operation system.

Thanks

It's a combined battery / real time clock. Google 'dallas rtc' and you'll find many a topic on it.

You have two solutions really - find a replacement module (can be difficult - many models are no longer produced, and even those that are around will be old and have unknown life left in them), or hack it to fit a lithium coin cell instead.
