I've been on the hunt for an IBM 3D Sound PCMCIA for some older laptops that I have that have no SB clone emulation.

I also recall reading on here that those Audigy 2 PCMCIAs have SB emu? Does it work under windows 9x/pure dos/etc?

The Audigy 2 ZS is a Cardbus card, not a 16bit PCMCIA, it won't work in old laptops. I think the SB emu drivers for the Audigy cards only work with PCI models.

Look at the link in my signature for the rest.

I saw the rest, but I cannot find any of these cards anywhere. I would like to get the IBM 3D Sound. Do you have any extras you would be willing to sell?

Finding the cards is tricky, finding the drivers can be too...

What kind of laptop do you want the card for and what kind of games do you want to run?
If you intend to run DOS games on Windows 9x (on atleast a first gen Pentium I would guess), you might as well go for a card that offer SB DMA emulation like the ES1688 based cards or WSS-SB emulation like the Newmedia Wavjammer or WJ-SCSI combo card.

The parallel port Portable Sound Plus from DSP also has a decent SB emulation under DOS, if going parallel is an option, the device needs an external power supply or a good amount of AA batteries though.

I know, I was going the route with the ESS or OPL3SAX and they are fine... But, all I can find is shitty Winbook's that have horrible quality control. I recently just got a Gateway Solo 9100 I'm waiting to show up. Has an OPL3 in it so it will work fine in pure DOS.

I know finding the cards is tricky, as I've been watching ebay for months and have not seen a single one show up. 😒

I can part with one of the ES1688 or one of the Newmedia cards I own, I'd like to make some records of the IBM 3D Sound and test it in Windows 9x and OS/2 before selling it.

What are the specs of the laptop you wanted the IBM 3D Sound for?

I just wanted to use it on any laptop really that still had a PCMCIA slot so I could get something some what newer and reliable. The Winbooks I had were all junk, I owned 3 of them and each one had some sort of issue... don't really want to get into that but it was annoying.

The Gateway solo that is arriving soon should have the same chipset as the Winbook XLi except with the OPL3SAX which works fine in DOS as the Winbook XL had that chipset and it worked great in pure DOS.

The card you have must work in pure DOS with music and sound. I.e. should be able to play Wolf3D properly as a good test.
