I'm trying to play quake 1 under win98 with a Nvidea mx400 (64M AGP) and
for some reason, i cant get it to play smooth. While moving, the game
will play fine for about 5 seconds, then it jumps forward and then back,
like the fps rate isnt consistent. Ive tried it on 2 motherboards, a P3 1ghz
and a P2 400mhz. I've attempted to try differant versions of the GART
chipset software, and am useing the 81.98 Nvidea driver. I know there is a
max fps command line for 2 and 3, but ive yet to find one for 1. Ive
also tried changeing the resolutions and the aperture size to no effect.
Its more pronounced on the 1ghz system (Via Chipset) then on the
intel chipset (440BX-2)

Any ideas on how to fix? I'm useing the last quake patch - 1.08

Thanks!

You should roll back to the first drivers that support this card. These latest ones tend to be buggy. Make sure you allocated the appropriate memory sizes for quake.exe, as well as Protected Mode and HMA.

Fullscreen palette issue with Nvidia cards. Try -dibonly and/or windowed mode.

This problem dates way, WAY BACK to the Geforce256, so you have nothing to rollback to.

You should be running WinQuake in a W98 environment. The DOS version isn't designed for this.
