I had installed a second hard drive into the computer and its set to slave, do i need to set it as master before it gets found? because currently it only finds 1 and thats c drive, i made the other drive d, do i need some special software for it to happen or is there a easy way its a intel celeron computer that is made for both systems so it could be neat to have them both on it.

You'll need a bootloader to "swap" the hdds. Way back when I used XOSL, and it did that.

Once you set up? Yeah, just pick the OS and run.

Install one OS on the first HDD, then install the boot loader. Generally the bootloader's documentation will guide you from that.

First of all, the BIOS must be detecting the HDD normally, and you must be able to access it as a secondary drive (D:) from the OS on the first HDD. The you have to install a third party boot loader (such as XOSL, but there are others that feature the same capabilities) on the primary HDD. It will "swap" the order the HDDs are seen by DOS/Windows IF you ask it to do so. Then you have to install the second Windows to the second HDD according to the documentation (because you need the "swapping" to be enabled during the setup), and then you just set up the final menu items. Once that is done you'll just have to choose the desired OS. But the boot loader MUST be installed on the first HDD, as the BIOS itself must boot from the bootloader's disk to call it.

If you are trying to use XOSL, it needs to be installed in pure DOS mode. What exactly are you trying to do? (which bootloader, exact steps, etc.)

Note that Windows 98 and Windows ME both boot from drive C, if I'm not mistaken: whenever you use the bootloader, the drive that boots will be designated drive C, and the other one will become drive D.

But that's something to deal with after the bootloader is installed.

That would require opening up the case and poking around the drives every time you wanted to change boot order.

yes , but it is possible to connect the jumper pins with wires to a switch and place the switch outside.

The only thing is: only switch when pc is off.

I had a Programm called bootstar back in these days.

It allows you to create 4 primary partitions (drive C) but only 1 is seen and the other 3 are hidden.

To change Data between the OS on the partitions you need one more partition (D:), where you can access from all the C: - Partitions

There is the more easy way (if supported) - BBS popup/HDD order in BIOS. You just choose the 1st HDD and the system boot from it.
So - install the 1st OS, change the HDD order, install the 2nd OS. Both OSs will be independent.

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

You have to edit the boot menu and then add the items. By default it doesn't have anything there.

I'm assuming your both drives are installed correctly and BIOS sees them without errors.

Go to http://www.masterbooter.com/download/addition … ilities_en.html and download "bootable floppy". Copy this bootable floppy image to an empty floppy disk, boot your PC with that floppy. Run "efdisk". It is a partitioning program, and easy to use, documentation included into the same floppy. Choose your first HDD, create an active primary partition. Do the same for your second HDD, but make it "hidden". Save the configuration and boot with your W98 CD, install Windows 98 as you would normally. When everything related to Windows 98 installation is finished, reboot you PC with the same floppy, and run efdisk again. This time, make your first HDD (in which you just installed Windows 98) hidden, and your second disk as not hidden, save the configuration and reboot with your Windows ME CD. Install Windows ME. After everything you need to do related with ME installation, reboot your PC again with the same floppy. Run mrbooter, and configure your multiboot system according to the documentation. Reboot (without floppy) and you will see a menu screen in which you can choose which windows you want to boot from. You are done.
