I'm trying to play some old games like Motocross Madness, Midtown Madness, Need for Speed, etc. in Virtual Box in a winxp guest but have only been able to get software rendering. I installed the Virtual Box guest additions under safe mode to enable 3d acceleration but no game I've tried so far has detected it. Oddly enough, I can run nglide and get acceleration that way with glide based games like Unreal so I think it's working maybe? Has anyone gotten this working?

I also tried using Dgvoodoo2 to perhaps get something working with direct3d but games still didn't detect anything.

Did you install virtual extensiones in fail safe mode (and enabling 3D support)?

Keep in mind that it only accelerates DirectX 9 and Open GL.

If you run dxdiag, you'll find that it fail DX7/8 tests, but DX9 tests works. So those old DX6 games will fail.

I see. I ran the tests and it did pass both direct3d 8 and 9 but not 7.

Ok. I tried Midtown Madness and it actually detected VMware SVGA II as a renderer but was unable to get into an actual game without corruption.

Ok I tried Motocross Madness 2 and that actually seemed to work ok with some slight performance issues.
