I have a new socket 7 build with the following components;

Asus TXP4-X
P 233MMX
64MB SDRAM
Voodoo 3 2000
AWE 64 gold
LAPC-I
64GB DOM
DVD ROM

I'm getting random power off's. When it occurs I have to use the power switch on the PSU to reset. Strangely it only ever seems to happen while in Windows (98SE). The PSU us rated +3.3v 17A, +5v 28A, +12 17A, -5v 0.5A, +5VS 2.5.

I had been running the same PSU on a Pentium M build with an Radeon 9600XT and all was fine, any ideas. I don't have another PSU with the needed -5v.

Power usage is pretty low, just under 60W. Can bad caps on the motherboard cause a PSU to shut off? The motherboard/ ram and CPU are the least tested parts of the system, all the other parts have worked flawlessly in other systems

Always a good idea to list the manufacturers name and the model of the PSU you're using as there are many users here from other electronics forums who recognize a poor-quality manufacturer or simply a particular model line from an otherwise good manufacturer that had problems.

But in my experience it is possible for bad capacitors in either the PSU or on the motherboard to cause the system to shut down. Go ahead and list the manufacturers name and the model of the power-supply.

I found some instructions on how to disable power management features in Windows 98 and so far so good.

Oh, really? Let us know how that goes. If disabling ACPI fixes the problem, then I'd assume you just have a strange driver problem or hardware conflict.
