... i really don't care what you think. This may be the most unecessary thread ever but credit is due when credit is due!

For weeks i've meant to try the new CGA Compatibility Tester that Trixter announced on the thread. I knew that when Jim said there was new Vile Rancour art i was expecting something nice, but my jaw just dropped. I think its beautiful. I'm not gonna post the image here. Now tell me that isn't art!

Congrats VileR, sir you made my day!

Glad ya like it! I've been planning some kind of production (intro? slideshow?) using the same idea, but drawing in this "technique" requires nerves of steel and I lack the free time. Maybe one day 😁

(Fun fact: back when I started experimenting with this 'mode' I knew of no existing tools that could work with it, so I resorted to hex-editing an old version of PabloDraw with the sliced-up font data. *Much* later I discovered that a later version supported .XBIN all along, and suddenly remembered that this format could do custom charsets -- and since the memory layout is the same as CGA anyway, my little hack had been completely unnecessary. Yep, I was that out of touch. I still prefer "my" version though 😀)

On the new CGA compatibility tester the 8x8 row programming option you'll see Vile Rancour's beautiful art! Now that is the most impressive CGA graphics/art i've ever seen. Maybe it's because it has that video game feel but i like it more than the art on 8088MPH (which is already amazing).

Hats off to you sir! I've been spending more and more time with my recently built PC/XT clone and i'm feeling more and more drawn to these old, slow and rather limited machines. Its amazing to see what clever and talented people can do to make these machines shine. True wizardry!
I wish there was a game for XT's that looked as beautiful as that, it feels the kind of game where you are karate kicking the shit out of everybody 😎
