Not necessarily. Why would it have the AWE32, then (assuming it wasn't added later, but then the PC probably wouldn't be free either)?

It's not a servercase. Nor server class motherboard.
It is just a Big box home computer that were expensive back then. I like the case. Envious. And I like the SCSI drives.

I had a smililar case ~1996, mine wasn't as good looking though.

The "server like" feature of that build is that it uses SCSI but to me the while thing smells rich kid as in "I want the best computer I can get for $10K". The result a system as noisy as an airplane during takeoff. 😀

One alternative is some kind of video editing workstation but that Matrox video card dosn't seem fancy enough for professional video capturing use. Perhaps it was a workstation on a smaller company and they needed the ability to digitalize video for documentary purposes now and then.

You can tell the case was aimed at the server/workstation market. Pair it up with a duel socket Asus/Abit/Gigabite motherboard (but still with only 1 CPU) and you would still have what was considered high end in the late 90's. when the likes of Compaq/Dell were still out of reach of what a lot of people wanted to spend and your outsourced IT company built a server for you.
Not that it matters 1 way or another anymore, What do you intend to run on it?

It's amazing the hardware in it came with it, except I tossed in that floppy drive and the serial port adapter in the rear.

I definitely believe it was used for something high end or workstation class use in its prime days. Once I get the parts in the mail I will begin toying with it and keep y'all updated.

It took a while to clean the inside and out but I think it looks great now. Thanks for your kind comments everyone.

Most likely MS-DOS 6.22 and dual boot it with NT4

Aww yeah, got some SCSI stuff in the mail today. Adaptec 2940UW and all those drives seem to work fine (except the SCSI CD drive doesn't eject but I don't care cause I have a working IDE CD drive anyways). That giant ST43400N is a hoot to boot up. It had two empty FAT16 partitions... just one PKZIP installer.

The other drives were unformatted and I got DOS installed. Will play around later tonight. Some pictures http://imgur.com/a/GdQAu
