Hello VOGONS, i'm working in my Pentium 4 build and i had some surprises on my early tests
Look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kldxcZFU4A8 its insanely loud (its at average 4066 RPM).
But the problem is that every POST its giving the error "Intel uCode loading error", should i update the BIOS ?
I always tend to avoid the BIOS update, but it seems that this is the only way to fix it.

Replace that fan ASAP!

That uCode loading error may mean that your BIOS has not uCode for that processor (=it is unsupported). Maybe a BIOS update can help, but before doing so I'd check if that CPU is supported at all.

I have traveled across the universe and through the years to find Her.

I'm selling some stuff!

Last time I dealt with a noisy CPU fan, it was a matter of improperly-applied thermal paste.

The fan is brand new 🤣, with the fan on 100% speed this P4 runs on 34C when i'm with my AC on, the hottest that this processor reached on my tests was 40C so i guess that is not running hot.
The manual of the board said that it support Intel 65nm processors.
I will try to update the bios, if it didn't fix i will sacrifice the potato chips money to buy another Pentium 4 🤣

Edit: MEMTEST86+ passed with no errors, the CPU is being recognised on CPU-Z, and with Q-Fan control its running pretty quiet.

Edit2: After updating the BIOS the error is gone.

Edit3: I'm running Prime95 about 1hr for maximum heat and with the fan control setting it to 3000 rpm the P4 did not throttle down and the maximum temperature was 45C, Considering that intel ARK mention that the Tcase is B1+C1=69.2°C. D0=64.1°C i guess its running great.

My brother used to have a little Globalwin copper heatsink for his old XP 2100+ system back in the day, and the fan on that thing was probably 60x25mm with nearly vertical blades. When it ran (it was constant with no temperature control in those days) it could be heard at the other end of the house and it made the whole case resonate. Good times.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

Globalwin heatsinks don't use fans. They use turbines!

All hail the Great Capacitor Brand Finder

ROFL
Using Q-Fan control i set this to use 50% and its way quieter than it was on the video, but still a little bit loud, but the temps are all good.

The Globalwin CAF12 Card Cooler was very useful I remember. I don't know why they stopped making them.

Is this too much voodoo?

I really hated it.

I've heard fans go that loud before. Usually ut has to do with improper fan speed settings in the BIOS.
