Even though V5 is clearly superior here, I like the picture rendered by V2 much better. The imperfections of V2 actually seem to make the scene feel more detailed and realistic, don't you think?

People still don't use the newest glide files... 😵
You guys need to stop using out dated/OEM drives and sys/dll files when comparing 3dfx cards unless other wise started.

The v2 photo is using the latest open source glide file available from 2009.

Back when I ran a Matrox Mystique and a Voodoo 1, sometimes I would use the Mystique's 3D because the sharp pixels of point sampled filtering gave the impression of more detail.
Or how I prefer to play Shadows of the Empire on N64 because the grainy, blurry picture make the experience more mysterious than razor sharp high resolution on PC.
So yes there is something to be said for a dirtier, grainier, grittier image. 😉

You also have to take into account that you notice rendering quality much more on a modern LCD monitor than on a vintage CRT. I prefer to play certain games on a CRT.

A real blocker with the latest un-official 3dfx drivers is that they don't run on some old systems any more. And there is no documentation to be found about the actual requirements.
I would like to have some table that shows which driver runs on 486, Cyrix, K5, Pentium and so on. as well as SMP compatibility for the NT drivers.

Same. Newer doesn't always equal better, which in itself should be kinda obvious.
