I've just swapped out a Western Digital WD400 to a Samsung PATA 160Gb Drive on my Athlon 2100 XP system (MSI KT3Ultra2 Motherboard) and now I'm not getting any HDD activity light on the case

I swapped the drive back and works once again. Assuming this is PATA controller related? Anyone had/noticed this?

Thanks,

What BIOS revision are you running? I'd update to the latest in case >128GB disk support was patched in. Version 5.7 dated 24-Feb-2003 is the release you want.

I think I've found the issue. When I removed the cable I noticed that the plastic which holds the cable on the connectors was broken, the ribbon cable was slightly off the pins one side.

I swapped the cable and it's now working! Strange how it worked with the previous drive when I reconnected it.

Thanks for the advice, I made sure the board was updated before swapping the drives.
