We wanted her to hold out until 2017, but the evils of 2016 got her too. This year needs to die in flames already.

Apparently her favorite part of making the Star Wars films was the back and forth reparte with Harrison Ford in Empire Strikes Back. This was also the film I thought she was strongest in.

So, first chance I get I'm watching Empire Strikes Back: Unspecialized Edition.

I was just absolutely floored when I heard, I feel bad for her daughter and especially her mother, how incredibly tragic to outlive your child.
I may fire up my incredibly worn VHS copy of A New Hope (without all the digital fuckery) after work tonight.
I think seeing Leia in the metal bikini was when I first started taking notice of the feminine form.
And yes, this year needs to end already. Just a rotten year all round. Prince, Bowie, Alan Rickman, George Michael and Carrie Fisher...how about some douches die if we are going to have some more celebrity deaths before the end of the year? Every one of those people didn't even manage to hit 70. With the exception of Bowie, they probably all should have lived another 20 years.

Really sad. Not long ago, I read the "Making of Star Wars" books by J.W. Rinzler (highly recommended to any Star Wars fan). They contain many interviews and photos from the years when the films were made, and one of the things I found most interesting is how seriously Fisher took her role. She seemed to be really into it, and I think that ended up being extremely important for the long lasting appeal of the character.

It's a joke about the year 2016 and how many important celebrities have died. You can also fold the joke of an American Presidential Election to that as well, though I'm more pleased with the outcome than if Killary/Shillary/whatever had won. I'm tired of people dying this year. That's my point.

You can see her likeness in Rogue One and she'll be in the next Star Wars movie so there's that at least.

Hopefully if I ever make it to 60 heart attacks will be a thing of the past along with cancer. Come on nanites hurry up!

I had actually just given my sister the Despecialized Editions of the original trilogy on Bluray for Christmas, and just last night we watched Episode IV. And now Carrie Fisher is dead... very sad. And makes one think, you know... she had no warning whatsoever; what if I had a heart attack at 55 or 60? Would I be satisfied with my life, looking down from above at the people I'd abruptly left behind?

I'm sad, she was the first princess that made an impression on me...

I'm also sad that this is used to further the political bullshit of this year ;(

Sad.... Eventually death comes to everyone. The tragic is the age she died at.

Please stop bring political or other issues into this.

I've watched some interviews with her that made it sound like she had a pretty rough life (like most celebrities). She abused her body pretty badly over the years with smoking, drugs and alcohol. I would not be surprised if that played a role in her death. In that case, I would disagree that "she had no warning whatsoever".

It's heartbreaking. 🙁

Yes, her alcohol consumption during the filming of the original trilogy was well known. I mean look at Ford who is much older and still going strong. No doubt the main cause was those long years of substance abuse. Still, sad to know the youngest of the bunch was the first to go.

Not just alcohol. She's been forthright about using cocaine on set.
