Hi, I just recently got a Compaq Deskpro 2000 166mhz (not the mmx version) and an 80 gig hard drive. I've heard that if you update the bios you can get it to detect hard drives that are larger than 8 gig, but I've had a really hard time finding the updated bios online. I stumbled on the ftp site with all the softpaq dowloads, and found updates for the MMX version of my bios, but I can't even track down any versions for the non mmx variant. Most of my searching has resulted in 10-20 year old forum posts full of dead links. Any help with tracking this down would be super appreciated.

i'm bad finding things on internet but, i think that the bios update may only be useful for hdd up to 32GB (the next limit) in which case you may find a smaller hdd or use a Dynamic Drive Overlay such as EZ-Drive, but you may not be able to use any os other than DOS and Win9x

That's fine by me, 32GB is still much better than 8, also for this particular machine, I bought it specifically for DOS and Win9x. It's funny, I both love the weird Compaq BIOS, and also wish it had a normal one.

Are you sure it's not the same BIOS?
Whats the part number of the motherboard?
